A design from one of Fatima Arrieta's recent collections
Designing the evening uniforms for Palacio Nazarenas is a really inspiring project. It’s quite unlike previous uniform design work I’ve done, with each piece in one simple style. For Palacio Nazarenas it’s more like doing a mini collection. Every uniform will vary according to each person’s job. So the housekeeper’s outfit has to be quite different from the concierge’s and the waiter’s quite different from the spa attendant’s. The receptionist’s outfit is particularly important, and will be more elaborate—to create a striking first impression.
All the uniforms will have the same mood and elegance, but must be comfortable, safe and practical. Each one will have a strong Peruvian touch. I’ve recently returned from a visit to Cuzco to meet local artisans in and around the city and see samples of their textile work, and I’m bursting with ideas. I can’t yet tell you exactly what materials will be used, but I’m especially interested in work that reflects the Peruvian love of flowers and nature.
